Hugs are generally considered gestures of greeting, comfort, or affection. However, we all remember being a witness to or party to a hug that was not welcomed or expected. Whether it was that hug from your bratty cousin at Easter or an awkward hug after a first date, we know that not all hugs are created equal. However, did you know that hugging someone can sometimes be criminal?
Modeo Manning, a 45-year-old registered sex offender, was arrested last Friday after allegedly forcing a female cashier into a hug against her will. He is facing a criminal confinement charge for the unwelcomed hug.
According to police reports, Manning walked into a convenience store at some point last Thursday and asked the female cashier on duty for a hug. When she refused, Manning allegedly pinned her against the wall and hugged her so tightly she couldn’t escape. When she finally did break free, she called police. She only did so after Manning had purchased some items and left the store.
When Manning returned to the store early on Friday morning, a different cashier recognized him from the police description of the hugging suspect. The cashier promptly called police and Manning was arrested.
